Oh, white people...

Oct 20, 2014

Oh, white people! Those crazy kids celebrated the annual Pumpkin Festival in Keene, New Hampshire by drinking until they passed out, littering the streets with empty bottles of alcohol, setting bon fires in the street, overturning cars and clashing with the police.

Continuing it's excellence in reporting that it started by portraying the rebellions in Ferguson, MO- started because an unarmed black 18 year old man was shot dead for jay walking while his hands were in the air- as the work of thugs, CNN ran a full minute of B-Roll, calling the people throwing rocks at police and jumping on overturned cars "rowdy." See the CNN Story Here.

To be fair, the police did come in riot gear and use teargas, however, the entire white enclave in New Hampshire was not criminalized and there are no plans to end Pumpkin Fest, like there have been efforts to end "rowdy" black gatherings in South Beach, Florida and elsewhere, in spite of the riots and arrests (last year there were 140 arrests at Pumpkin Fest).

In what might be the greatest statement of white privilege ever, a white student who participated in the setting of fires, overturning cars, destruction of property and throwing objects at the police was quoted:

"“It’s just like a rush. You’re revolting from the cops,” 18-year-old white guy Steven French, who described the chaos as “wicked,” said of the riot. “It’s a blast to do things that you’re not supposed to do.”
